Project DescriptionWe are interested in how auditory feedback control is affected by the cerebellar impairment in ataxia. Auditory feedback is used to make online corrections to articulation and prosody while speaking. The cerebellum is an important neural structure in the feedback loop for speech production. We are using an auditory feedback perturbation paradigm in which participants vocalize into a microphone while their auditory feedback is briefly perturbed in pitch, loudness, or timing through headphones. We then measure both the reflexive pitch-shift response as well as changes in production of anticipatory phrasal prominence and boundary.
